Our website tools
This section explains what the tools on this website do with your information. It adds to the statement above and doesn’t change it.
NBN address check
The address you type is sent to our server (nbn-check.php), which looks it up with NBN Co’s address lookup to show the connection type. NBN Co gets the address from our server, not from your browser, so it doesn’t see your IP address. To make repeat lookups quicker, our server reuses address suggestions for 10 minutes and connection details for 1 hour, then clears them out. These aren’t linked to you or your IP address. To stop misuse, the server also keeps a salted one-way hash of your IP address (never the address itself) for about 10 minutes. Addresses aren’t written to our web server logs. See NBN Co’s privacy policy.
Speed test
The speed test runs in your browser using Cloudflare’s open-source speed test. The test traffic goes directly between your device and Cloudflare’s network, so Cloudflare sees your IP address as part of the test. Your results aren’t sent to NET2000, and the engine’s option to send results to Cloudflare is turned off. See Cloudflare’s privacy policy.
Speed test counter
When a test finishes, your browser lets our server know so we can count completed tests. To avoid counting the same visitor twice, the server keeps a salted one-way hash of your IP address for about 3 minutes, then deletes it. We don’t store your results, just the total number of tests.
Support request form
If you use the support request form, we collect what you type: your name, phone number, and optionally another email address, your account username or service address, the best time to call and your message. It goes only to NET2000 support: our server emails it to support@net2000.com.au and also saves a copy in a private file on our server, so your request isn’t lost if email fails. We use it only to help you with your request. To stop automated spam, the form uses checks that run on this website (nothing from other sites). Our server keeps a salted one-way hash of your IP address for up to 24 hours to limit how many requests can be sent, then deletes it. Please never include passwords in the form.
Outage check links
The “Check nbn outages” link opens NBN Co’s network status page. The “Check power outages” link opens a Google search; after an NBN address check it includes your suburb, state and postcode, so Google receives these when you click it, and Google’s privacy policy applies. We don’t collect anything from these links.
Time, weather and headlines
The bar at the top of each page shows Melbourne time from your device’s clock, weather from MET Norway and headlines from The Conversation. Our server fetches the weather and headlines and passes them on, so your browser doesn’t contact MET Norway or The Conversation to show them, and no images or scripts load from their sites. If you click a headline or source link, you go to their website and their privacy policy applies.
Cookies and storage
This website doesn’t set cookies or use your browser’s storage. There’s no advertising or analytics tracking, and nothing is loaded from other sites to show the pages.
Server logs
Like most websites, our web server keeps standard access logs, which record details such as the IP address, the page requested, the date and time, and the browser type.
